Cole Weston (1919-2003) was an American photographer renowned for his color and black-and-white work, and the son of famed photographer Edward Weston. Initially working as his father’s assistant, Cole developed his own artistic vision while maintaining the meticulous attention to form, texture, and composition that characterized the Weston legacy. After Edward’s death, Cole printed many of his father’s negatives, preserving and extending their influence, while also producing his own landscapes, portraits, and still lifes that explored light, shadow, and natural beauty with a distinct sensibility. Known for his mastery of the dye transfer color process, Cole Weston’s work bridges the legacy of modernist black-and-white photography with vibrant color expression, earning him recognition as both a preserver of photographic heritage and a creative force in his own right.
