Tibetan Kapala Skull with Silver Adornments and Turquoise Cabochons. Tibetan skull cap with silver adornment carved with floral and geometric designs, accented with turquoise stone cabochon on front.

Tibetan kapala vessels, also known as skull cups, are sacred ritual objects used in Tibetan Buddhism, particularly in tantric practices and ceremonies. Traditionally crafted from a human skull, kapalas symbolize the impermanence of life and are employed in offerings to deities, representing the transformation of negative forces into wisdom and compassion. These vessels are often intricately adorned with precious metals, engravings, and jewels, reflecting their spiritual significance and the high level of craftsmanship. Kapalas are central to practices such as chod rituals and offerings to fierce protector deities, embodying profound philosophical and meditative meanings within Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
