Selma Alden is a Massachusetts-based painter and printmaker, originally from Osterville on Cape Cod, whose art captures everyday life, coastal scenes, and human moments across landscapes, beach scenes, portraits, figurative works, and still lifes. She studied at institutions such as the Decordova Museum, the Museum School, and Vesper George School of Art, though her first love has always been painting. After raising four children while working in interior design and fabrics in Newton, MA, she returned to her artistic passions, eventually serving as curator for the Cape Cod Art Association since the 1990s. Alden describes her focus as exploring “the human condition,” often through gently impressionistic scenes of beach life, leisure, and quiet moments, sometimes incorporating touches of realism or abstraction, and has exhibited widely in Cape Cod and Boston-area galleries.
