Scot Buccina was born in Rumford, Maine in 1957, and began exploring art at an early age, eventually drawn to stone sculpture when he studied at the University of Maine at Orono and Presque Isle for his bachelors in art and art history. After being invited to Florida State University for a teaching assistantship in sculpture he completed his masters there, as well as meeting and marrying his wife Nancy, and together they moved to West Palm Beach to start his first studio, eventually relocating to Hobe Sound. He and his son Andrew continued to work together at that studio until Buccina’s abrupt death in 2024, by which time he had won many juried competitions across the country and gained a reputation both as a repairer of old sculptures in marble, alabaster, calcite, and mixed medias as well as a successful artist in his own right.
