Rembrandt’s etching of a strolling elderly couple, often referred to as The Strolling Couple (c. 1635), depicts an intimate, everyday scene of an older man and woman walking together, each leaning slightly on a cane. The work showcases Rembrandt’s keen observational skill, capturing subtle gestures, facial expressions, and the natural interaction between the figures. Faded signature in plate lower left. Framed.
According to consignor there is a sketch of a woman in pencil verso and architectural elements and it is inscribed and dated 1856: “École de Rembrandt”. Indecipherable (possible) collector’s name verso.
Condition: Some fading to lines, foxing near edges of paper.
