Ray C. Grimes (often credited as Ray Grimes) was a mid-20th-century American painter and art teacher, active primarily in Los Angeles and the Hollywood art scene in the 1940s–1960s. He exhibited oil paintings with themes that included South Sea Island scenes and portraits, and held a one-man show in Los Angeles in 1949. Grimes also taught art and maintained a studio in Hollywood, where he was known locally as a portrait artist to the stars. He served in the U.S. Army’s 41st Infantry and won first prize at the National Veterans Art Show in 1957. Grimes died in October 1962 at age 55, and a memorial exhibition of his paintings was held later that year in his Los Angeles studio.
