N. A. Freeman (19th Century) American, Tested 90% Silver Pitcher - 37.695 ozt. Exquisite floral and grape-and-vine patterns throughout. Marked on underside.

Size: 9 x 7 1/2 x 15 in.

Weight: 37.695 ozt.

N.A. Freeman was a renowned maker of coin silver items in Augusta, Georgia who was active in the mid 19th Century. Serving spoons, pitchers, vases and more were hand-crafted with distinctive patterns that are considered highly collectible today despite not being sterling. This is likely due to the same reason almost no information is available about the founder, whose last name suggests he was a freed slave or descendant of one, making his works a truly remarkable part of the history of silversmithing in post-bellum America due to the tumultuous years before and after the Civil War.

All items are sold AS IS. Lot and condition details are for descriptive purposes only. Sarasota Estate Auction is not responsible for errors and/or omissions of condition. The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is perfect or free from wear, flaws, or characteristics of age. Please bid according to your own expertise, or request any additional information and/or photographs you deem necessary.
