Milton Caniff (1907-1988) was an influential American cartoonist best known for creating the adventure comic strips Terry and the Pirates and later Steve Canyon. Born in Ohio, he developed a cinematic approach to comic storytelling, combining strong characterization with dynamic composition and dramatic shading. Terry and the Pirates, launched in 1934, became famous for its exotic locales, complex plots, and memorable characters, helping to define the adventure comic genre. Caniff's sophisticated narratives and striking visuals influenced generations of cartoonists, earning him numerous honors, including the Reuben Award
