\ Malcolm Moran (1923–2011) was an American sculptor and designer celebrated for his expressive bronze and metal figure sculptures—especially his dynamic depictions of children at play—and for his varied artistic career that bridged commercial design and fine art. Born in Seattle with a twin brother, Moran trained broadly in the visual arts at institutions such as the Cornish Art Institute, the University of Washington, the ArtCenter School in Los Angeles, Kobe University in Japan, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, later working in advanced design for companies including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, and Boeing before transitioning fully to sculpture. In the early 1960s he moved to Carmel, California, where he opened Gallery Carmel and became a recognized force in contemporary bronze sculpture, with his work exhibited widely and even shown at the White House; his artistic output also included gallery ownership and innovative techniques that influenced other sculptors.
