LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) American, Lithograph "America's Quarterback". LeRoy Neiman’s America’s Quarterback (1982) is a vibrant offset lithograph that captures Dallas Cowboys legend Roger Staubach in action. The piece is rendered in Neiman’s signature energetic, expressionistic style—bold colors swirl around Staubach as he prepares to throw, giving the sense of movement, excitement, and the electric atmosphere of football. This work is emblematic of Neiman’s broader artistic mission: to celebrate athleticism, iconic sports figures, and the spectacle of American sport. It also underscores how Neiman elevated sports imagery into fine art, blending his love for the game with a painterly technique that dramatizes motion and emotion.

Numbered 50/950. Signed by Staubach in marker lower left, Neiman in pencil lower right. Framed.

Overall Size: 34 1/2 x 27 1/2 in.
Sight Size: 27 x 20 in.

LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) was an American painter celebrated for his vibrantly colored, instantly recognizable depictions of sporting events, celebrities, and leisure culture. Rising to prominence in the 1960s through his work with Playboy magazine—where he became the publication’s resident artist—Neiman developed a bold, kinetic style that captured the movement and glamour of boxing matches, the Olympics, jazz clubs, and high-society gatherings. His paintings, often executed in rapid, energetic strokes, bridged fine art and popular culture, making him one of the most commercially successful artists of his era. Known as much for his flamboyant public persona as for his prolific output, Neiman became an icon of American pop-expressionism, leaving behind a vast body of work that continues to define the visual language of 20th-century spectacle.
