Larry Fink (March 11, 1941 – November 25, 2023) was an American photographer known for his striking black-and-white images that revealed the social dynamics, tensions, and intimacies of American life. Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, he studied under Lisette Model at the New School, developing a documentary style marked by bold flash, close physical proximity, and emotional immediacy. Fink rose to prominence with Social Graces, a series that contrasted elite Manhattan parties with modest rural gatherings in Pennsylvania, highlighting class divides with both critique and compassion. Over a five-decade career, his work appeared in major magazines, museums, and galleries, and he taught photography at institutions including Bard College, profoundly influencing generations of documentary photographers.
