Juraj Oravec is a prominent contemporary Slovak painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and creator of monumental architectural works. Born in Kežmarok, Slovakia, in 1956, he studied at the Secondary School of Graphic Arts in Prague and later graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Based in Trenčín since the early 1980s, Oravec has developed a distinctive visual language that balances figuration and abstraction, combining luminous color, symbolic imagery, expressive gestures, and richly layered textures. His works often explore themes of human existence, spirituality, mythology, nature, and the subconscious, creating dreamlike worlds filled with metaphors and emotional intensity. Over a career spanning several decades, he has exhibited extensively in Slovakia and abroad, earned numerous awards, and has his work represented in public and private collections throughout Europe and beyond.
