Walter Mitchell “Mitch” Keirstead was born in 1948 in Whitby, Ontario, surrounded by a highly creative family of accomplished painters, particularly his prominent brother James Keirstead. He developed his own signature style, well known for his realistic and nostalgic depictions of the Canadian countryside and everyday rural life, and continues to produce acrylics, watercolors, and oil paintings on canvas, board, and masonite. He is also known for running a popular gift shop that showcased his art and others in Arthur, Ontario for nearly two decades before retiring in 2021, now working from a home studio in Waterloo.
