Julee Docking (1920-2023) was an American painter based in Sarasota, Florida, known for a lively, often experimental style that embraced both realism and abstraction. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, she studied at the Corcoran Art School in Washington, D.C., and took private lessons at the High Museum in Atlanta. A longtime member of the Florida Artists Group, the National League of American Pen Women, and other arts organizations, Docking received recognition for her work through awards like the Grumbacher Gold Medallion and exhibited widely—including at the Kennedy Center, the Ringling Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery. Her approach leaned on spontaneity and chance, allowing humor and serendipity to guide her compositions across various media.
