Henri Regnault (1843–1871) was a French painter known for his vibrant, dramatic works that combined Romanticism with Orientalist themes. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1868, which allowed him to study in Italy. Regnault gained recognition for his bold use of color and meticulous attention to detail, producing striking historical and exotic scenes, such as his famous painting Salomé. His promising career was tragically cut short when he was killed at the age of 27 during the Franco-Prussian War, yet his intense, expressive style left a lasting mark on 19th-century French painting.
