Pierre-Auguste Renoir (February 25, 1841 – December 3, 1919) was a leading French Impressionist painter celebrated for his luminous color, vibrant light, and intimate portrayals of modern life. Born in Limoges and raised in Paris, Renoir began his career as a porcelain painter before studying art and befriending fellow artists like Claude Monet, with whom he helped shape the Impressionist movement. His works, such as Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette, capture lively social scenes with warmth and spontaneity, while later paintings increasingly emphasized classical composition and sculptural forms. Despite suffering from severe rheumatoid arthritis in his later years, Renoir continued to paint prolifically, leaving behind a vast body of work that remains among the most beloved in the history of art.
