Maurice Utrillo (1883–1955) was a French painter renowned for his evocative cityscapes of Paris, particularly the Montmartre district. Born in Paris to the artist Suzanne Valadon, Utrillo struggled with mental health issues and alcoholism throughout his life, yet he developed a distinctive style characterized by muted colors and thick impasto, capturing the quiet, atmospheric streets and buildings of early 20th‑century Paris. He became one of the few famous painters specializing in urban landscapes, and his works achieved international recognition, influencing the School of Paris and earning him a lasting place in modern art history.
