Henk Bos (April 1901 - November 1979) was a Dutch painter from Huizen best known for his meticulously rendered still-life paintings inspired by the Dutch Old Masters. Working against the prevailing trends of modernism, Bos specialized in traditional compositions featuring fruit, flowers, books, pewter vessels, and other everyday objects, executed with careful realism, rich color, and attention to texture. His work gained recognition in the United States, where he was sometimes dubbed the “New Rembrandt from Holland,” and examples of his paintings entered museum and private collections, including the Maryhill Museum of Art. Today, Bos is remembered as a significant twentieth-century Dutch still-life painter whose art preserved and revitalized classical techniques and subjects.
