George Morton Prout (1913-2016) was an American artist who studied sporadically at institutions like the John Herron Art Institute while working odd jobs during the Depression. In 1940, Prout fled the German invasion of France by bicycle, then used a scholarship to study the arts and cultures of Mexico before returning to the U.S. After World War II, he worked in graphic design and, in 1959, moved to the artists' colony in Sarasota, Florida with his artist wife, Fay Davis. From the 1960s onward, Prout produced whimsical silk screen prints of Florida scenes and later explored sculpture, with his work being heavily influenced by his extensive world travels.
