Graciela Rodo Boulanger (born 1935 in La Paz, Bolivia) is a Bolivian-born French artist renowned for her vibrant, stylized depictions of children. Raised in a musically and artistically enriched environment—her mother was a concert pianist and her father an art connoisseur—Rodo Boulanger began her artistic journey early, giving her first piano recital at 15 and holding her first art exhibitions in Vienna and Salzburg at 18. At 22, she decided to dedicate herself entirely to painting, studying etching and printmaking in Paris under the guidance of Johnny Friedlaender and René Carcan. Her work is characterized by joyful scenes that capture the essence of childhood, featuring round-faced children engaged in everyday activities, rendered in lyrical colors and graceful lines. Notably, in 1979, UNICEF appointed her as the official artist for the International Year of the Child, and two of her tapestries were displayed in the UN General Assembly hall. Her art has been showcased in over 200 exhibitions across five continents, including retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America in Washington, D.C., and a 50-year retrospective at Gallery 444 in San Francisco in 2006. Rodo Boulanger's work continues to celebrate the innocence and joy of childhood through her unique artistic lens.
