Frances Blakemore was an American artist, author, and philanthropist. She went to Japan in 1935, where she drew sketches for magazines, executed murals, and depicted working people in many of her prints. During the Second World War, she lived in Honolulu and illustrated books and championed contemporary Japanese printmakers. She also wrote Who's Who in Modern Japanese Prints, an important source on Japanese printmaking.
The painting here is an oil on canvas that is signed with her block print in the lower right, and a paper label on the back with her bio. The overall size is 24 1/4 x
27 1/8 in wide and the sight size is 17 1/4 x 20 1/2 in. wide.
