The Cauldon Place Works was founded in 1802 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, by Job Ridgway, with the business later becoming known as Cauldon Potteries Limited after a 1920 takeover. Following difficulties during the Great Depression, the company was acquired by Harrison & Son (Hanley) Limited in 1935, which consolidated its various pottery interests while maintaining separate brand identities. The Cauldon name's history, which included the use of "Royal Cauldon" after John Ridgway's 1851 appointment as "Royal Potter," continues to be used today after the remaining name was purchased by Pountney & Co. Ltd in 1962.
