Antique Japanese Hand Painted Nippon Porcelain Vase. Unique urn shape with two elaborate handles. 

Condition: Commensurate with age. One hairline crack by one of the handles. 

Size: 6 x 13 x 4 1/2 in. 

Nippon is the Japanese word for Japan, and it refers to fine porcelain and china produced in Japan and exported to the United States primarily during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. The Nippon era specifically began in 1891 when Japanese porcelain was marked “Nippon” due to the McKinley Tariff Act, and ended in 1921 when the United States began requiring the word  “Japan” to be present instead.
