Contemporary Russian Orthodox Hand Painted Icon of The Holy Manylion (Spas Nerukotvorny).
This is a contemporary hand-painted icon created in the traditional technique of ancient Russian iconography, using egg tempera and gold leaf. It depicts the image of The Holy Mandylion (Spas Nerukotvorny) — one of the most revered representations of Jesus Christ in the Orthodox tradition. The face of Christ appears on a veil (ubrus), symbolizing the miraculous image not made by human hands.
The halo and inscriptions are gilded, and the background is covered with a thin protective varnish, giving the icon depth and solemn brilliance. The proportions and colors are strictly in accordance with Byzantine and Russian canonical traditions. The soft modeling of the face, precise features, and harmonious use of white, ochre, and gold tones emphasize the spiritual expressiveness of the image.
The icon is painted on a wooden board with a traditional gesso (levkas) ground and protective coating. It is ideal for a home icon corner, church interior, or as a meaningful gift.
