Contemporary Russian Orthodox Hand Painted Icon of Our Lady of Tenderness (Umilenie).

This contemporary hand-painted icon is executed in the traditional Russian iconographic technique using egg tempera and gold leaf. It depicts the image of the Mother of God “Umilenie” (Our Lady of Tenderness) — one of the most prayerful and revered depictions of the Holy Virgin. The Virgin Mary is portrayed with her head slightly inclined and her hands crossed upon her chest, symbolizing humility, compassion, and complete devotion to the Divine will.

The background and halo are gilded, creating a radiant effect that emphasizes the sanctity and serenity of the image. The delicate features of the face, soft transitions of tones, and harmonious blend of red, blue, and white colors reflect the refined aesthetics of Byzantine and Russian iconographic traditions.

The icon is painted on a wooden board with a traditional gesso (levkas) base and finished with a protective varnish. The decorative border ornament is hand-painted with gold pigment, adding refinement and solemn beauty to the piece.
