Claudio Simonetti (Born 1929) Italian, Signed Oil on Canvas. Depicts a busy Italian street. Signed indistinctly bottom left. Attribution on label on back of frame along with title: "Market Scene." Signed on back of canvas in red pen, with the word "Vicolo" written in pencil below (meaning "alley" in Italian). 

Condition: Commensurate with age. 

Overall Size: 22 1/4 x 24 1/4 in. 

Sight Size: 15 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. 

Claudio Simonetti was born in Rome, Italy on January 29th, 1929 into a family of artists. As a child he painted alongside his father before furthering his studies at the Rome School of Art. By his teen years he possessed a masterful ability to capture the light and reflections of the Italian landscapes and sea, coming to focus mainly on oils on canvas. He traveled extensively throughout his life, though remained mainly in Europe, exhibiting in Venice, Naples, Milan, and Paris. At the age of 90 he retired from painting, and his works have become more and more highly sought by collectors ever since.
