Benjamin Lincoln was born on Mount Desert Island in Maine in 1970. As a child he spent all his time in the workshop where his father built wooden boats, learning to make them as well. It inspired him to study art, particularly drawn to geometric abstraction and concepts in oils and ink. Another major inspiration came when he first discovered science courses in middle school, and became a voracious researcher, studying medicine, genetics, string theory, and quantum mechanics throughout high school and his twenties. He moved off the island at eighteen to pursue a degree at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he coalesced his style by incorporating the techniques of Renaissance masters. After marrying he and his wife moved to Vermont, where his large, surreal, futuristic works began to generate significant regional attention. In 2011 he and his wife moved back to his hometown on Mount Desert Island, where he purchased the workshop his father had once worked in, continuing to live and make art in it today. He is represented by the Littlefield Gallery in Winter Harbor, and when the Smithsonian Institute acquired several of his paintings in the early 2020s it brought him international fame as well.
