George E. Forster (1817-1896) was a German-born American artist celebrated for his exquisitely detailed trompe-l’œil still lifes. After emigrating from Bavaria to New York around 1865, he exhibited at major venues, including the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Critics admired his mastery of texture and his uncanny precision in rendering ripe fruit, delicate bird's nests, and sparkling dew drops. Forster’s technically dazzling and quietly poetic paintings ensure his place as a leading figure in 19th-century American still life.
Inpaint, minor craquelure. Frame with chips and losses.
