Alain Bouju was born in Rouen, France in 1948. He spent his childhood in Normandy where he discovered fishing, swimming, and diving with his father and his grandfather, and his earliest art focused on these pastimes, as well as coastal scenes he had grown up appreciating. He developed a Post-Impressionist style while studying at the Beaux Arts in his hometown in 1988, and by the early 1990s he was exhibiting in Paris, Nancy, and Cannes. In 1998 he was honored for his work by the Academy of Arts of Greci-Marino in Italy, and in 2001 he won the Silver medal at the Mérite et Dévouement français pour les Arts. He continues to paint to this day, with exhibits all over the world, particularly in Japan and the United States.
