Jeremy King was born in 1933 in Oundle, Northamptonshire, England. He studied at Lancaster College of Arts & Crafts, Macombe Colleges of Art, and at the London University Institute of Education. From 1958 to 1967 he taught painting and pottery at Haymill School in Burnham, where he met and married his wife Brenda, a fellow artist. With her encouragement he left academia to take up painting and lithography full-time alongside her, traveling extensively and working at studios in Spain and France before focusing on landscapes almost entirely. His first solo exhibition in the United States was in 1984, and his first in Japan was in 1990. His plein aire approach and heavy Impressionist influences garnered him critical and commercial success, with an extensive collection of his works on permanent display in the Tate Gallery in London. He passed away in 2020.
