Rosenthal GmbH, a German manufacturer of porcelain products, was founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria by Philipp Rosenthal. Through a series of acquisitions and mergers, the company grew to become one of the largest porcelain companies in the region by the 1920s. Following the rise of the Nazi party and Philipp Rosenthal's death in 1937, the company underwent "Aryanization," though the internationally recognized Rosenthal name was permitted to remain due to its global market income. The company was revived in 1951 by Rosenthal's grandchildren, who expanded into glass, designer furniture, and household goods, including a successful collaboration with Versace. In 1997, it was acquired by the Waterford Wedgwood Group, and subsequently by the Italian manufacturer Sambonet Paderno Industrie in 2009. The Rosenthal Archive, comprising 15,000 exhibits and designs from artists like Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol, is now on permanent exhibition at the State Museum of Porcelain.
