This is an oil on panel by William Wallace Gilchrist, Jr. He grew up in Pennsylvania and was active on the coast of Maine. He painted landscapes, genre scenes, interiors, and was an accomplished portrait painter. The painting here depicts his mother seated in front of a fireplace and the family dog by her side. It is signed and dated May 1905 in the lower left. The overall size is 25 1/2 x 22 in. wide and the sight size is 19 x 15 in. wide.
