William Joseph Schaldach (1896-1982) was an American artist, writer, and outdoorsman best known for his etchings, watercolors, and illustrations of game fish, birds, and hunting scenes. After serving in World War I, he studied at the Art Students League in New York, where he mastered various printmaking techniques like etching and drypoint. Schaldach became managing editor of Forest and Stream (later Field & Stream) while also publishing his own books on fishing and nature. A member of several prominent art societies, he exhibited widely and remains a significant figure in American sporting art.
