Walter F. Parkes (born 1951) is an American film producer, screenwriter, and studio executive known for producing and writing a number of influential Hollywood films. Born in Bakersfield, California, he studied at Yale University, where he developed an interest in filmmaking and storytelling. Parkes gained early recognition as co-writer of the techno-thriller film WarGames, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Over the following decades he became one of the most prominent producers in the industry, working frequently with producer Laurie MacDonald and helping bring major films to the screen such as Men in Black, Gladiator, Minority Report, and Catch Me If You Can. Parkes also served as head of motion pictures at DreamWorks Pictures during the 1990s and later co-founded the immersive storytelling company Dreamscape Immersive, reflecting his ongoing interest in combining cinematic narrative with emerging technology.
