Vintage John P. Daleiden Co. Hand-Embroidered Liturgical Hymnal Cotton Altar Frontal. Rich red fabric dominates the long piece, which would be draped over an altar in the front, and the letters "IHS" in a circle in the middle stand for Iesus Hominum Salvator, translated to "Jesus, Savior of Men." A label on the back identifies the origins.

The John P. Daleiden Company was opened in 1872 in Chicago, Illinois, and produced primarily religious goods for use in Catholic and Ecclesiastical churches and services. After the founder died in 1930 his son, Lawrence Daleiden, took over as president and changed it to his own name, and the company began to produce a limited number of home goods as well, including artificial flowers and devotional furniture. The company was absorbed into the Mary Shops in the 1990s after the death of John Cyril Daleiden, the final president, although many of the items and designs created in the hundred year history of the company continue to be produced by them.
