Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) was a Hungarian-French artist widely regarded as the father of Op Art, a movement that explores optical illusions through geometric abstraction. Trained in both traditional painting and Bauhaus-influenced design, Vasarely developed a signature style that used precise shapes, bold colors, and mathematical repetition to create dynamic, vibrating patterns that seem to move before the viewer’s eyes. His works, such as Zebra and the Vega series, challenge perception and blur the boundaries between art and science. Vasarely’s influence extended beyond galleries into architecture, fashion, and graphic design, making him a pivotal figure in 20th Century visual culture.
