Vangelis (1943–2022), born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, was a Greek composer, keyboardist, and pioneer of electronic music whose work blended synthesizers with orchestral and ambient elements. He gained international fame for composing the Academy Award-winning score for the film Chariots of Fire and the influential soundtrack for Blade Runner, both of which became landmarks in film music. Throughout a career spanning more than five decades, Vangelis created a wide range of albums and soundtracks, often exploring themes of space, nature, history, and human achievement. His innovative use of electronic instruments helped shape modern ambient and cinematic music, making him one of the most respected and influential composers of his era.
