This lot consists of four thermoplastic cases with photos. The first is a thermoplastic union case with a pair of daguerreotype images depicting two women, possibly a mother and daughter or two sisters. The daguerreotypes are sixteenth plates and come in a long black case with a velvet lining that reads “Anson 589 Broadway”, and the floral motif on the outside of the case is repeated on front and back. The case has snug clasps and was probably made in the 1850‘s, and it measures 3 3/8 x 2 1/16 in. wide. The second case shows a tintype of a young girl in a period dress and bonnet. The case is oval and has an embossed cover which portrays a man and woman with a baby in a basket, reminiscent of a Nativity scene or Moses as a baby being discovered in a basket in Egypt; the motif is repeated on front and back. The velvet lining has light wear, and the case has a snug clasp and was probably made in the 1850‘s. It measures 2 3/16 x 2 5/8 in. wide. The third case has a tintype of a woman and a lock of hair pinned to the velvet lining. The case is oval and has embossed covers with a grape or fruit motif that is repeated on front and back. There is a small chip near the clasp and a couple of slight nicks on the rim. The case was probably made in the 1850’s and measures 3 x 2 9/16 in. wide. The last case is an octagonal thermoplastic case from the 1850‘s that has no photo. It has embossed covers with a decorated oval in the center and braided rope as the border; the motif is repeated on front and back. The velvet lining has slight wear and the case has two hinges and snug clasps. The case measures 3 x 2 1/2 in. wide, in great condition, and suitable for a daguerreotype or other images from the time period.
