This is a thermoplastic case with a daguerreotype of a young woman in a gingham or plaid dress. The daguerreotype is a ninth plate and the image is hand-colored. The embossed covers feature a woman’s profile in cameo on a mirror-like oval, and this motif is repeated on front and back of the covers. The ruby velvet lining has light wear, and the case has a snug clasp and was probably made in the 1850’s.
