Toan Klein (Born 1949) American/Canadian, GATO Art Glass Paperweight and Wood Base. Visible within the egg shape is a mountain form with distressed gold leaf accents. Stand is carved and rounded to fit the piece.

Toan Klein was born in New York City in 1949, immersed from a young age in art. After being introduced to glassmaking while studying in Ohio in 1970 he was offered an apprenticeship with master Venetian glassblower Mario Cimarosto in Montreal, Canada. He immigrated there in 1972 and set up his first hot glass studio, GATO, three years later, eventually moving to Toronto in 1978 where he continues to maintain the studio and a gallery. He has participated in dozens of group shows as well as holding one-man exhibitions and teaching both at his studio and at art shows and events all over the world, with many of his pieces now held in museum collections including at the Corning Museum of Glass, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Royal Ontario Museum.
