Tavík František Šimon (1877–1942) was a Czech painter, etcher, and woodcut artist known for his vibrant cityscapes and masterful printmaking. Born in Železnice, Bohemia, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague before traveling extensively across Europe, America, and Asia, experiences that deeply influenced his work. Šimon captured the atmosphere of places like Paris, New York, and Venice with luminous color and fine detail, often using techniques like aquatint and color etching. He was a founding member of the Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists and later became a professor and rector at the Academy in Prague. His art blends Impressionist sensibility with traditional printmaking, celebrating both urban life and quiet landscapes.
