Swedish FM Konstglas Art Glass Squirrel Sculpture. Signed on the underside "FM Ronneby Sweden M508."
Size: 7 x 5 x 2 3/4 in.
In 1954 Josef (born 1933) and Benito Marcolin (born 1936), two brothers trained in glass making in Murano, Venice, moved to Sweden and worked at several glassworks before founding their own company, FM Konstglas, in 1961. The company name FM stood for Färe-Marcolin, and they established their facility in Ronneby, producing glass figurines, vases, and bowls in a unique blended style of Swedish and Murano techniques. In 1983 the company changed its name to FM Marcolin Art Crystal, and again to Marcolin Art Crystal in 1988-89, constantly adapting new styles into their pieces including millefiori patterns as well as sommerso and zanfirico. The Swedish factory closed in 1991, and production briefly moved to Sardinia, Italy in collaboration with Sardinia Crystal, but disagreements in the direction of the company eventually led the brothers to part ways. Benito returned to Sweden, while Josef moved to Austria to continue production under the Marcolin Art Crystal name until his death in 2015.
