Stephen Huneck was born on October 8th, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio and studied art at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, but dropped out just a few credits shy of a diploma to move to Vermont with his new wife, Gwen. He worked in sculpture, painting, woodcut printing, and making jewelry as well as furniture and even became a bestselling children's author. Inspired by animals in much of his art, he and his wife Gwen decided to give back by creating Dog Mountain, a 175-acre park with hiking trails, an agility course, and the Chapel, a venue to honor deceased pets, which he built himself. Tragically, he shot himself and died on January 7th, 2010 after the global economic collapse forced him to lay off all the employees and face the possibility of closing Dog Mountain, but his legacy lives on in his many humorous, whimsical, heartfelt pieces that can be found in public and private collections all over the world.
