Tiffany Studios Favrile glass is an innovative type of art glass developed in the late 19th century by Louis Comfort Tiffany, known for its rich, iridescent colors that are embedded within the glass rather than applied to the surface. The name “Favrile,” derived from an old French word meaning handmade, reflects the emphasis on artistry and craftsmanship. Makers created the effect by mixing metallic oxides into molten glass, producing shimmering hues that shift with the light. Tiffany Studios used Favrile glass in vases, windows, and especially lamps, where its luminous, organic qualities became a defining feature of Art Nouveau design.
