This is a watercolor by Shirley Clement, a noted artist who lived in Florida and New York. She was one of the few women accepted for early membership by the American Watercolor Society; she became a member in 1953 and was known for figure and portrait painting. Her dad was a commercial artist in New York and she was related to Henri Matisse. Two of her paintings are in the permanent collection at the University of Florida.
The watercolor here is very reminiscent of a watercolor she did which portrayed the Everglades. The trees and colors are very similar on both pieces. The overall size is 13 1/4 x 15 1/8 in wide and the sight size is 6 5/8 x 8 7/8 in. wide.
