METRONOME DE MAËLZEL
This instrument provides the rate of speed at which a piece of music is to be play- ed.
The metronome speed is indi- cated at the start of classical and semi-classical compositions. If, for instance, it is shown as 84. slide the weight on the pendulum until it rests directly op- posite the number, 84 on the scale. Then set the pendulum in motion and after it has attained a regular move- ment the speed with which it ticks in- dicates that the piece of music is to be played one quarter note to each tick. If the composition is marked 84=d, this means that it is to be played one half note to each tick, etc.
CAUTION-Wind slowly and stop when re- sistance is felt. When Metronome is not in use the cover should be replaced.
