Ron Campbell (December 26, 1939 – January 22, 2021) was an Australian-born animator, director, and producer whose five-decade career helped shape a golden age of television cartoons and animation. After beginning his career in Australia in 1958—working on commercials and early animated series like Krazy Kat and Beetle Bailey—he gained international prominence in the 1960s by directing many episodes of The Beatles animated TV series and contributing to key sequences in the iconic 1968 film Yellow Submarine. After relocating to Hollywood, he worked with major studios, including Hanna-Barbera, and his own company, Ron Campbell Films, Inc., producing or animating beloved cartoons such as The Smurfs, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, and The Jetsons. In later life, he turned to painting—often reimagining characters and scenes from his animation legacy—and exhibited his artwork across the United States, continuing to delight fans with his nostalgic, hand-crafted style.
