Roger William Curtis (1910-2000) was a renowned American marine and seascape painter, born and based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Though he was initially pressured to pursue business, Curtis dedicated himself to art by taking night classes at institutions like Boston University and studying privately under Aldro T. Hibbard. In 1950, he quit his business job to focus on painting full-time and quickly found success, becoming president of the North Shore Arts Association and writing several instructional books. His luminous, realistic depictions of harbor life and the rocky New England coast remain highly sought after by collectors today.
