Caroline C. Burnett (1877-1950) was an American-born Impressionist painter who became known for her vibrant Parisian street scenes. Little is known about her life, but she quickly adopted the contemporary movement in France, exhibiting with the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1898. She painted numerous heritage sites, with her figural representations growing more abstract until she fled the Nazi Occupation to live in Britain. Though virtually forgotten upon her death, a rediscovery of her luminous oil paintings in the 1980s led to renewed interest in this underappreciated artist.
