Robert Wyland (1956) is an American artist, conservationist, and public muralist best known for his large-scale “Whaling Wall” murals that celebrate marine life and promote ocean conservation. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Wyland developed an early passion for drawing and the natural world, which evolved into a lifelong mission to raise awareness about endangered ocean ecosystems. Since the early 1980s, he has created more than 100 monumental murals in cities around the world, along with paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works depicting whales, dolphins, and other sea creatures in vivid, realistic detail. In addition to his artistic career, he founded the Wyland Foundation, which supports environmental education and clean water initiatives, solidifying his legacy as both an influential artist and an advocate for marine preservation.
